Playing the piano more easily, what is the PAINLESS “(painless) playing method” Tarbman approach “that I learned in New York?
I attended the Taubman Institute Summer Symposium in New York in the summer of 2002 or 2003. For two weeks, I spent a lot of time in the dormitory, with lessons and sub-lessons, lectures, and concerts. At the end of the seminar, I also attended the master class of Dorothy Taubman (died in 2013). Currently, Ms. Edna Golandsky from the Juilliard School, Ms. Tarbman’s beloved disciple, has succeeded her and continues the seminar as her institute. There were participants from all over the world, including Juilliard students as well as famous pianists, but the number of Japanese was really small. Since then, my disciple and friend pianist have also participated, and it seems that there are pianists who are practicing the Tarbman approach (some people call it the Tarbman playing method, but the approach is correct because it is mistaken for a strange playing method). .. In Japan, pianist Aya Nagatomi seems to have become famous when she learned the Tarbman approach from Golansky. Now, “What is the Tarbman approach?” In a nutshell, “How to play the piano with a painless body usage”. “Easy!” “Weakness!” It’s a word you often hear in lessons. Even if I think I’m doing it myself, I can’t play it no matter how many times I practice, my arms, hands, shoulders and elbows hurt, and I get tired after long hours of practice. I think there are probably many such students. Even so, the reality of believing that “effort,” “patience,” and “amount of practice” can be overcome is still rooted in Japan. That’s why I went to New York to learn the “PAINLESS” (painless) playing method called “Turbman Approach”. There, pianists and Lesnars (which are said to be top-notch) and their students who are in trouble due to illnesses such as tendonitis are gathering like a rush temple. Personally, I think it is a more understandable and practical version of the “Alexander Technique” using the “Body Map”. By no means, it is not a mysterious special playing style such as XX playing style. (^^;) Just return to the natural playing style that people originally have. In the lesson, I won’t let you just play it. “I can’t play” or “I get tired or hurt” Immediately find the cause, give specific instructions on where to use and how to play, and follow the principle of the “Turbman approach” to find a method to play reasonably easily. I will give you careful advice. In the process, this is the true meaning of “weakness”! It will take some time, but I’m sure you will understand. You can now play passages and songs that you couldn’t play before! The ganglion that has been a problem for many years has healed! I’m not tired! The students were very happy. Recently, some students have recovered from ganglion and elbow pain. This approach focuses on more than just musical things. About the body and why can’t I play? Why does it hurt? Are you tired? I think it is important to thoroughly study and play the piano rationally. Of course it is necessary to learn traditional European and Russian music. I myself went to Vienna and Norway and got a lot of inspiration, but for pianists, the Tarbman approach is clearly advantageous to know. If you learn the correct piano playing method based on the Tarbman approach, you will be able to enjoy playing the piano without pain or fatigue. Recommended for everyone from beginners to Lesnars and pianists.
